Open Graph image sizes — platform-by-platform

PlatformAspect ratioRecommended sizeMax file size
Facebook1.91:11200 × 6308MB
LinkedIn1.91:11200 × 6275MB
Twitter (summary_large_image)2:11200 × 600 (or 1200 × 630 — works)5MB
Twitter (summary)1:1240 × 240 minimum5MB
Slackuses og:image1200 × 630
Discorduses og:image1200 × 630
WhatsApp1.91:11200 × 630600KB (sometimes)
Pinterest2:3 (vertical)1000 × 150010MB

One image at 1200 × 630 PNG or JPEG covers almost every platform. Under 500KB keeps WhatsApp happy. Pinterest is the only case where a second, vertical variant pays off.

Forcing a cache refresh when previews look stale

Every social platform aggressively caches the OG metadata they fetched when your URL was first shared. After updating og:image / og:title, you must force a re-scrape:

  • Facebook: developers.facebook.com/tools/debug — paste URL → Scrape Again.
  • LinkedIn: linkedin.com/post-inspector — paste URL.
  • Twitter / X: Card Validator was retired. Tweet and delete the tweet to force re-fetch, or add a cache-buster query string (?v=2).
  • WhatsApp: no official debugger. Cache-buster query string (?wa=2) is the workaround.
  • Slack / Discord: cache expires in 24 hours; can't force. Append ?v=2 to the URL.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I preview how my page looks on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn?

Enter a URL. The tool fetches the page, extracts Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags, and renders previews exactly as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Slack and Discord display them. Spot missing or wrong tags before you ship.

What Open Graph tags do I need for good social sharing?

Minimum: `og:title` (60 chars), `og:description` (200 chars), `og:image` (1200×630), `og:url` (canonical), `og:type` (website or article). For Twitter add `twitter:card: summary_large_image`. Our tool shows exactly what's missing.

Why is my Facebook preview broken or showing the wrong image?

Facebook aggressively caches. After fixing tags, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger (`developers.facebook.com/tools/debug`) and click Scrape Again to refresh. LinkedIn: Post Inspector. Twitter: Card Validator. Our tool shows what the latest tags look like, then force a re-scrape per network.

What size should my og:image be?

Facebook: 1200×630 (1.91:1). Twitter summary_large_image: same. LinkedIn: 1200×627. Pinterest: vertical (1000×1500) works best. Under 200KB file size. JPEG or PNG. The preview tool flags images that are too small or wrong aspect ratio.

Does Open Graph affect SEO ranking?

Indirectly. Strong OG = more click-throughs on social shares = more traffic and backlink signals. Google doesn't use OG tags directly but Bing sometimes does. Main benefit: better social CTR.
